Murdoch – Kwinana Freeway Shared Path Upgrade

Updated 24 Jan 2024

Main Roads is upgrading approximately 1.5 kilometres of Principal Shared Path (PSP), including the South Street underpass, adjacent to the Kwinana Freeway in Murdoch.

This work will be undertaken from early October 2023 and a detour will be in place via Farrington Road, Murdoch Drive and South Street until project completion. It’s predicted that the path should be open in the first week of February 2024.

Please note – the detour follows the footpath and shared path, and is not on the road.

WestCycle’s Active Transport Manager spent the afternoon with staff from Main Roads, riding bikes through the area around Fiona Stanley Hospital. Together they decided on balance that this detour was the safest and easiest to navigate for most path users, out of a range of unsafe or impractical options.

WestCycle is working with City of Melville to facilitate a small event along the path on Murdoch Drive while the detour is in place, so look out for the WestCycle marquee and come say hello to our staff.
