Mitchell Freeway PSP Upgrades: Leederville to Northbridge

WestCycle have been advised that Main Roads are widening and resurfacing two sections of the Mitchell Freeway Principal Shared Path (PSP), between Leederville and Northbridge, to improve the surface for riders and walkers.

Stage 1: Richmond Street to Vincent Street (300 metres)
Stage 2: Loftus Street to Aberdeen Street (780 metres)

This project is due to start next week and be completed in mid-2026. To minimise disruption to path users and keep everyone safe while this work is being completed, Main Roads will close one section at a time.

Signed detours will be in place that have been carefully selected to cater for riders and walkers of all abilities. With more people using the detour routes on bikes, e‑bikes, e‑scooters and on foot, please look out for each other and keep our shared paths friendly and safe.

View the detour map for Stage 1 below or visit Main Roads’ project webpage for more information.

Stage 1 Detour: Richmond Street to Vincent Street

Please note that while riders can get through where the path closes at Richmond Street, they will be on the footpath and there isn’t much space on the islands at the Vincent St intersection.

WestCycle has worked with Main Roads to find the best combination of safe and convenient for the path detour, for people riding bikes and eRideables. The detour has also been reviewed by City of Vincent, and the Urban Mobility team at DTMI.
