The WA Government has thrown its support behind its vision for a new national V8 Supercars street circuit at Burswood Park, potentially adding another cog in WA’s burgeoning status as a south-east Asian events hotspot.
WestCycle is engaging the government to incorporate a multi-purpose criterium track in the project.
Current plans for Burswood Park include permanent structures like grandstands in what would be a multi-purpose facility that Tourism Minister and Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti MLA has said, “will have broader community benefits year-round.”
A world-class criterium cycling track would significantly enhance WA’s presence on the national and international cycling map.
“WA bike riders have long been calling for a centrally located criterium track in Perth – it’s hard to think of a better location than Burswood Park,” said WestCycle CEO Wayne Bradshaw.
“It would be a tremendous facility that could build on the National Road Cycling Championships WA has secured for the next three years – and attract other national and international events.”
“A Burswood Park crit track would also be a go-to venue for Perth-area cycling clubs to host events, as well as a fantastic public facility that could be safely used by Perth cyclists all year round. Yanchep has shown how much demand there is for this kind of facility with its Splendid Park track – it’s time central Perth had the same.”
“We’ve been in discussion with the government about it and have received positive signals – we look forward to progressing discussions for a crit circuit to be incorporated into this project.”
