WestCycle have been advised that Main Roads have completed Stage 1 of the Mitchell Freeway Principal Shared Path (PSP) Upgrades, between Richmond Street and Vincent Street, improving the surface for riders and walkers.
On Tuesday 28 April, work will start on Stage 2 to resurface and widen the 780 metre section between Loftus Street and Aberdeen Street. This is expected to be complete by mid-2026 and, for safety reasons, the path will be closed for the duration of works. You can view the detour below or visit the Main Roads project webpage for more information.
This PSP upgrade was planned in two stages to minimise disruption to path users, with detours carefully selected to cater for riders and walkers of all abilities.
With more people using the detour routes on bikes, e‑bikes, e‑scooters and on foot, please look out for each other and keep our shared paths friendly and safe. Road users and residents along the detour routes are also asked to take extra care, as there will be additional cyclists and pedestrians on the roads and paths during this time.
Stage 2 Detour

WestCycle has worked with Main Roads to find the best combination of safe and convenient for the path detour, for people riding bikes and eRideables. The detour has also been reviewed by City of Vincent, and the Urban Mobility team at DTMI.
