Long Term Closure: Tonkin Highway PSP Rowley Rd to Thomas Rd

As part of the Tonkin Highway Extension Project, the Tonkin Highway Principal Shared Path (PSP) will be closed between south of Rowley Road and Thomas Road from September 2025 until late 2028.

As the PSP currently ends at Thomas Road, path users are encouraged to use the existing PSP network at Armadale Road, or, if comfortable, find an alternative local route. The alternative routes in the area are unfortunately not suitable for most riders. Please be aware that local roads are high speed (over 60kph) and do not have separated facilities for riders. Drivers will also be detoured on roads throughout the area.

For riders looking for an alternative training route, fortunately the Byford Rail Extension is scheduled to reopen on Monday 13 October 2025, and includes a new 8km addition to the Armadale Line PSP.

WestCycle and Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI, formerly Dept of Transport) staff have met with the project team about the closure to provide advice on signage, mapping and communications. The project team are keen to work with us to make sure riders are aware of the PSP closure and informed about their options.
