East Perth: path disruptions and detours

WestCycle has been contacted by a construction team doing work over February and March that will have impacts for people using the Principal Shared Paths near the East Perth Train Station and the Windan Bridge. Here’s all the details:

  • Works to be completed in Stages 1, 2 and 3
  • Stage 1: Perth to Midland Railway Line PSP (Adjacent to Summer St East)
    • 180m of path closed from 17/02/2025 for approx 2 weeks, Monday – Friday (9:00am – 4:00pm)
  • Stage 2: Graham Farmer Freeway PSP (Westbound of the underpass)
    • 100m of path closed from end of February 2025 for approx 1 week, Monday – Friday (8:00pm – 5:00am)
  • Stage 3: Graham Farmer Freeway PSP (Eastbound of the underpass)
    • 430m of path closed from early March 2025 for approx 2 weeks, Monday – Friday (9:00 – 4:00pm)
  • Works include resurfacing and tree root ingress treatments.

On 14 Feb WestCycle spoke with the project’s senior engineer regarding several concerns bike riders raised with us.

  • Traffic controllers will be in place on East Parade to stop traffic and help people to cross.
  • The traffic will be slowed to 40kph in this stretch of East Parade.
  • Paths will be completely accessible outside of work hours.
  • The underpass will be OPEN for detour 1, and closed for detours 2 and 3.

If you have any concerns we are happy to raise them directly with the project team, or you can email Main Roads at [email protected]. The project will be on their paths and cycling page soon with the above information.

We understand the provided map was a bit unclear (hey, at least we didn’t submit you to a Traffic Guidance Scheme) and we agree, so here’s what we hope is a better one. All the detour stages are on it, but you can toggle them on and off with the eye icon in the legend.
