Regos are booming and the canola will be blooming for the Canola Classic’s undulating 52km and 93km rides on Sunday 24 August.
Shire of York president Kevin Trent (above, left) was out on his trusty mount on the weekend and can confirm his Shire’s canola fields have welcomed the recent rains and will soon achieve their glorious seasonal gold.
“Last year’s event was a great success, celebrating the stunning canola season and showcasing York at its best,” Trent said.
“It’s a fantastic event that brings real energy to the town. We saw plenty of social media buzz with those vibrant field photos. It brought in riders, families and visitors from across the State and gave a real boost to local accommodation, cafes, shops, and attractions.”
The Shire president added: “There’s a strong sense of community pride, with volunteers and local groups getting involved.”
More than just a ride: A weekend experience
Compared to 2023, last year’s rider numbers swelled about 25% to more than 520, with many bringing family and friends and making a weekend of it in York and surrounds.
This year’s weekend attractions include the York Antiques Fair and York Night Market.
Aside from the Shire’s plentiful eateries, cafes, pubs and wineries, Trent recommended visitors could, “have a riverside picnic at Avon Park and take a walk across the Suspension Bridges.”
“For a great view of the whole area head up to Mount Brown Lookout. There are also some beautiful bush walks and heritage trails around town.”
