Fremantle Traffic Bridge Bus Ride

WestCycle have been advised that from the early hours of Sunday 1 February, the Fremantle Traffic Bridge will close to progress construction of a new, iconic bridge for our port city. Activity to dismantle the bridge will begin later that day and continue for several months.

Main Roads is offering community members the opportunity to register their interest in being part of the last convoy of people to drive over the old bridge. Opportunities are available for up to 80 people to join the project team for a final bus ride over the bridge the morning of Sunday 1 February, after it has closed to general traffic.

The bus ride will provide information about the status of construction of the new bridge, with members of the project team available to answer questions. The ride will take approximately one hour and include an opportunity to disembark on the bridge for a brief photo opportunity.

To register your interest in this unique opportunity, please email hello@fremantlebridges.com.au and briefly explain why you wish to participate. The closing date for applications is Friday 23 January.

Successful applicants will be notified of the pick-up and drop off location in the days prior to the closure. Spaces are limited and some applicants may miss out.

Main Roads recognises the community interest in this project and have in recent months been exploring potential options to mark the closure of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge.

However, as it is a live construction site with constrained public access and parking in the area it would not be safe or practical to hold a large public event at this time.

Main Roads and the Fremantle Bridges Alliance plan to hold a community event to mark the official opening of the new bridge, once substantive construction activity is complete, and access can be safely provided.
