WAMBA – MTB Update

The West Australian Mountain Bike Association (WAMBA) is the state representative body for the West Australian mountain bike community. The Association works collaboratively with key stakeholders to identify, develop and sustain mountain bike experiences in Western Australia.
From Alex Wade, President of WAMBA – ‘2017 has been a challenging year for WAMBA.  Our transition from an entity delivering trails to a genuine State Sporting Body has not been as smooth as we had hoped and we still have a way to go.  We are really pleased to have played a part in raising the profile of our sport and are excited to see what can be achieved in the next 12 months.
The WAMBA committee would like to acknowledge the phenomenal achievements of individuals clubs in particular:
1.       PMBC’s massively successful National Round in Pemberton;
2.       The delivery of new trails in Margaret River, Dunsborough and Collie;
3.       The sustained diversification of facilities on the Kalamunda Circuit.
We would also like to acknowledge the efforts that WestCycle have made on behalf of the mountain biking community.   Whilst we didn’t see the pledges the Liberal Party made ahead of the March State elections come to fruition, the inroads they have made on our behalf cannot be denied.  Their on-going high level lobbying has raised the profile of our sport and put in place the foundations for future growth in funding.
We would also like to acknowledge the spirit of conciliation and understanding that has been shown by land managers and clubs alike.  Whilst there have been a number of situations that have been disappointing and diverting, we genuinely believe that respectful communication will see these situations reduced and allow resources to be used more effectively.
Speaking of communications and in closing, we would like to acknowledge that WAMBA has not been as effective in engaging with the community as we need to be.  This is something that we are committed to improve in 2018.’
