WA Mountain Bike Strategy

The Western Australian Mountain Bike Strategy is the first discipline-specific plan to emerge from Our Bike Path, WestCycle’s strategic framework for cycling.

Mountain biking is one of Western Australia’s fastest growing recreational, sport and tourism activities. With its diverse environments and outstanding scenery, the state has the potential to support a thriving mountain biking industry and grow into a world-class mountain bike destination.
The Western Australian Mountain Bike Strategy provides a clear statewide approach to coordinating and developing mountain biking in Western Australia over the period 2015 – 2020.
The Strategy is a framework for decision-makers, landowners and land managers, communities and everyone else involved in mountain biking. It will ensure that Western Australia embraces sustainable mountain biking as a leading experience by delivering opportunities, maximising participation and sharing the benefits.
The Strategy was formally released in June 2015 and is the result of nearly three years work by WestCycle, WAMBA (West Australian Mountain Bike Association), the mountain bike community, the Department of Parks and Wildlife and the Department of Sport and Recreation.
A consultation draft of the Strategy was released in October 2014 seeking public comments. Submissions were received from 35 organisations and individuals. All comments were reviewed and taken into account during the finalisation of the Strategy. A copy of the responses and actions to the public consultation comments can be downloaded here.
Now the Strategy has been finalised, we are working to involve the community, government and the corporate sector in its implementation. This is an extremely exciting phase and will lead to more trails on the ground, a vibrant mountain biking community and increased tourism opportunities across the regions.
