The Department of Transport and WestCycle would like to thank everyone who participated in the first ever WA Bike Month Challenge.
The Challenge aimed to encourage more people to take up cycling on a regular basis and activate newly built infrastructure, as well as the broader existing cycle network.
In total, 2,343 Western Australians from 189 workplaces took part. Altogether participants rode 779,473 kilometres, that’s more than 19 times around the world!
As part of the Challenge, workplaces competed across seven categories by earning points by riding their bikes and encouraging their colleagues.
The winners for the following categories are:
● 2,000+ staff: Bankwest
● 500-1,999 staff: Main Roads WA
● 200-499 staff: City of Busselton
● 50-199 staff: BG&E – Perth Office
● 20-49 staff: National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator
● 7-19 staff: Speedcast Australia
● 3-6 staff: Cathay Mortgages Pty Ltd
“It was fantastic to see so many workplaces and individuals participate in the WA Bike Month Challenge this November,” said WestCycle CEO Matt Fulton. “I would like to congratulate the winning teams on a great effort, and for those who missed out on a prize, I hope you enjoyed the camaraderie of riding your bike with your colleagues, friends and family.”
“There are many benefits to riding a bike regularly and I encourage more Western Australians to enjoy our beautiful state this summer and ride a bike for transport, fun and a healthier lifestyle.”
Participants can continue to use the Love to Ride website to log rides, sync apps, share photos, upload stories, create goals and challenge their friends until August 2020. For the full list of winners, please visit www.wabikemonth.com.au
