Trafalgar Bridge Rejuvenation Project Consultation

August 2019

The City of Perth is seeking input on the schedule for replacing the ageing timber decking on the Trafalgar Bridge.

Two options are proposed for the replacement of the bridge decking.

  • Option 1 – The full deck is replaced during the 2019-2020 financial year. During the construction phase the bridge will be closed to the public for approximately 4 to 5 weeks.
  • Option 2 – The works will be undertaken as staged works where 50% of the deck is replaced during the 2019-2020 financial year and the remaining the following year. The bridge will be closed for approximately 3 to 4 weeks for each stage.

For both options, the bridge will be open during event days at Optus Stadium and on weekends.

The proposed working hours and days are:

  • Working Hours: 7am to 7pm
  • Working Days: Monday to Friday

More Information About Trafalgar Bridge
The Trafalgar Bridge has been signposted as a ‘pedestrian bridge’ and for cyclists to dismount for many years. In 2014, the City’s Works and Urban Development Committee noted its intention to investigate suitable design solutions, including the status quo, that will facilitate the implementation of a Pedestrian Priority Zone at the Trafalgar Bridge, East Perth, within the current financial year to accommodate slow speed, controlled bicycle movements, in-line with the City of Perth Cycle Plan 2029.
