Central Section – Reid Hwy to Ellenbrook – Completed 17 August 2019
On 17 August 2019, the central section of the Tonkin Highway Principal Shared Path was opened, extending the southern section by a further 16km to Mitre Bend in Ellenbrook.
This PSP is four metres wide and totally separated from road traffic providing pedestrians and cyclists with a safe, high-quality and healthy transport option as part of the NorthLink WA project.
Travelling through a number of underpasses, the path continues with no crossings at traffic lights. A new overpass at Sewell Crt was also constructed to connect to the Reid Highway PSP as well as a number of existing footpaths in the area providing easy access to local parks, community facilities and schools.
The landscaping component of the central section of Northlink was the largest undertaking in Main Roads history that included 1.6m plants, 800kg of seed, 1500 mature trees and included a new fauna bridge. The PSP will also feature smart lighting that will dim when the PSP is not in use.
