Three good fields raced for the very first time under lights on a fast and completely off-road circuit at the Kwinana MotorPlex.

The C Grade had the privilege of opening the series. The field enjoyed a warm windless night on very fast surface.  A small break away managed to get a little distance on the field before being closed down with plenty of time remaining.

Andrew Lawrence took out the sprint finish from John Buonvecchi and Mark Glorie with Julia Kalotas the first woman home.

The B Grade had a handy field for their 40 min event.  Again the laps rolled over very quickly on the fast course. A few attacks in the second half of the race failed to hold for more than a lap leaving the result to another sprint finish. Luke Bonham sprinted away in the last 100m to take victory from Colin Rose, Campbell Smith, Ryan Willmot and Mathew Wardynec.

Travis Meyer, just back from his honeymoon, headlined the A Grade field of 20 riders. An early attack saw a breakaway of 4 riders (Jackson Mawby, Michael Fitzgerald, Lawson Mills and Logan Calder) establish a handy gap.  The break held and varied between 20 and 45 seconds. The main bunch recognised that the race would be gone if the break got out to over a minute so whenever it stretched out close to that mark the bunch put a big effort in to reel it back in but was never quite able to close it down completely.

The breakaway put in a big effort with 5 minutes to go to try and open up a race winning lead.  But the bunch responded and in the last three laps kept pulling the lead back and back. At the start of the last lap the bunch had closed the gap to just 100m and kept closing and closing but in the end it was to no avail.  With 500m to go Michael Fitzgerald and Jackson Mawby put in a big effort to go off the front of the breakaway group and take first and second with Lawson Mills just holding off the bunch 50m away for 3rd with Steve Hall and Theo Yates leading the bunch for 4th and 5th.

The riders praised the course and enjoyed racing on a fast surface and under the lights in the cool of the evening.  The generous prize money is possible thanks to the Tint A Car sponsorship of the series.

The series continues with week 2 this Thursday 28 November again at the Kwinana MotorPlex.

The racing will start a little earlier this week. C Grade will be off at 6.45pm, B Grade at 7.25pm and A Grade at 8.10pm.  Women are encouraged to race in either B or C Grade with guaranteed prize money for the first female in both grades.

Come and try racing under lights to experience for yourself to see what the riders are all talking about.
