“The Beverley” 110km Handicap Road Race
A fast, 110km out-and-back course over undulating, quiet rural roads.
Reminiscent of the Beverley to Perth Race, cycle racing returns to the Wheatbelt town of Beverley this October.
Known originally as the Rover Road Race dating back to 1897, then referred to as “The Beverley”, the original races ran through until 1999. This year, The Beverley Handicap sends riders Westwards out of town along the Talbot West Road and the returning.
Rolling over undulating terrain, riders travel through rural views gently uphill on the way out with no major climbs to mention. Transitioning into shaded bushland of Wandoo National Park, the turnaround on to the return run sees a fast flowing lightly downhill run. Handicap groups will need to work well to keep the scratch men at bay. On the return leg, the racing climaxes in the short sharp rise on the approach to Lennard Rd with 4km to go– the first rider to crest holds the advantage in a fast run into the finish line.
The handicap format encourages groups to work well together over the parcours.
Be a part of the return of “The Beverley” and make your own history. Stay for the weekend. Running in conjunction with the Beverley Heroic on the Sunday, there will be a full weekend of cycling for all the family. The “Heroic” rides beckon your ol’ faithful or dutifully restored beauty for a more leisurely roll through the countryside of the Wheatbelt, or the Town Ride for those happier staying closer to base.
