Race for the Cow!!
The competition to take home a cow was fast and furious at last weekend’s Satalyst Tour of Margaret River. Held against a spectacular backdrop the Tour offered something for all levels of rider and was one of the largest races ever held in WA with just under 360 riders taking part including some big names like Phil Anderson, Jack Bobridge and Anthony Giacoppo.
There was also the largest field of female cyclists ever assembled and the competition for the Hall Cycling Pink jersey taken out by Julia Kalotas was fantastic to see as was the standard set by the women competing in the mixed teams with Alison Dyson highest placed on the overall classification.
With a handicap system in play the Green Jersey transitioned through the categories before being taken out by Theo Yates who also claimed the John Smith Jersey as highest placed Under 19 rider after showing great form in the sprints on the Saturday. Runner up in this category Sam Welsford won Sunday’s Queen stage that culminated in a spectacular finish atop the Augusta Golf Club hill.
Ian Lyne from the Total Travel team took out the hotly contested Livelighter Blue Jersey for the best placed Over 50 rider while the Satalyst teams dominated the teams competition with the young GDT Flanders Racing pushing them all the way.
The Tour of Margaret River is a unique event that is the brainchild of Brendon Morrison. If you check out the photos on the ToMR facebook page and write ups from various teams and clubs involved including Northern Beaches you will see this is a Cycling Eventure that you don’t ever want to miss!!
PS. The cows slipped the paddock and are now on mantle pieces all over Australia.
