The Labour Day long weekend saw some of WA’s top cyclists return to our streets for the Pemberton Classic 2013, the first official event on the WA road cycling calendar. This year nearly 200 riders and 20 different cycling clubs took part in the two days of competition, including the star attraction of Cameron Meyer from the Orica-GreenEDGE professional cycling squad. Cameron is a six-time world champion on the track for Australia, and he also won the 2011 Tour Down Under.
In the Men’s A Grade Criterium on the Saturday, raced in hot and humid conditions, a group of five riders broke clear of the pack including Cameron Meyer and last year’s runner-up, Craig Cooke. This time, however, it was Nicholas Graham-Dawson who took the line honours from Samuel Davis with Cameron Meyer in third.
