What is the NJRS?
The National Junior Road Series (NJRS) is an initiative of Cycling Australia with the support of local State Bodies. It features a series of the state-based junior events (J17 & J15) where individual riders are competing for National recognition. The aim of the series is to provide a link between the best Australian junior road events and an increase in interest in junior cycling. In doing so the goal is to increase the standard of domestic junior competition, create a stepping stone for riders via these events.
How does the NJRS series work?
The 2019 NJRS is a series featuring two races organised by each of the states across Australia. Junior riders are able and encouraged to race in their home state events but may also travel to race in any of the interstate events. Riders will gain points from their best two (2) results in any series event (including National Junior Road Championship events).
Each NJRS event has two age categories for Male and Female competitors, U15 & U17.
Points will be awarded throughout the NJRS following the below points allocation system.
Only the riders two (2) best results (local or interstate) will count to the overall series points tally. Riders are awarded points no matter which state they are from (i.e interstate riders can take points from interstate riders).
NJRS Leader & Leaders Jersey Information
Riders who are leading the NJRS for their category will be awarded a series leader jersey for their state. If a rider is competing at an interstate event and becomes their state leader, no jersey will be awarded at that time. State leader jersey is to acknowledge achievements in the rider’s home state and is presented at the state events by organisers.
They must wear the series leader’s jersey at any future NJRS events (excluding the Junior National Championships). After the conclusion of the National Junior Road Championships, the NJRS Champion will be awarded to the individual who has the highest points. In the event that there is a tie, riders will be equally ranked.
WA Junior State Road Team
In 2019, the NJRS events will be a considerable factor into selections for the WA Junior State Road Team. Participation and outstanding results at any NJRS round will be viewed upon favorably by the selection panel. We encourage all WA U15/17 riders looking to compete at the 2019 Australian Junior Road Nationals to enter both WA NJRS rounds and consider interstate events where possible. More information regarding specific selection criteria for the WA Junior State Road Team will follow shortly.
