MIDLAND RAILWAY PSP DIVERSION

Updated 28 January 2021

Midland Railway Principal Shared Path Diversion (Between Leake St and Tonkin Highway, Bayswater)

1 February 2021 to mid-2022

  • The closure and detour of the PSP between Leake St and Slade St scheduled for 11 January 2021 has been delayed and is now scheduled to commence in 1 February 2021.
  • The existing detour from Slade St to Tonkin Hwy remains as-is.

From 1 February 2021, a series of phased detours on the Midland Railway Principal Shared Path (PSP) will commence enabling the construction of the new Bayswater station.

The PSP between Leake Street and Slade Street will be closed from 1 February 2021. A detour will link with the existing on-road PSP detour on Whatley Crescent that is being managed by the Forrestfield – Airport Link Project.

To accommodate a dedicated on-road shared path detour, Whatley Crescent between King William and Garratt Road will be reduced to a single lane in each direction and between Hamilton and King William streets reduced to a single city-bound lane (and then permanently close in the coming months to allow the Beechboro South realignment).

Cyclists and pedestrians can use the on-road detour, which includes a dedicated lane through part of Whatley Crescent and a pull-in area for cyclists to safely cross the road. Pedestrians can also use the footpath on the other side of the road

Traffic light signalling will be updated to allow safe crossing at the King William Street and Whatley Crescent Intersection.

Signed detours through the local street network will be in place for the duration of the closure and signs showing the detour route will be located at strategic locations.

Sections of the PSP will gradually be reopened as the construction progresses.

Once complete in mid-2022, this section of PSP will be realigned, upgraded to current standards and integrated into the new station.

Please note detours of the Tonkin Highway PSP from Great Eastern Highway to Morely Drive will be in place concurrently. Please check this page for more information https://westcycle.org.au/tonkin-gap-shared-path-diversions-2020/
