Kwinana Freeway Principal Shared Path Diversion (Phase 1 – Dowell Place to Farrington Road, North Lake) – 24 September 2018 to December 2018
A detour of the Kwinana Freeway PSP between Dowell Place to Farrington Road, North Lake will commence 24 September 2018 to ensure the safety of shared path users, road users and construction workers whilst works on the Kwinana Freeway are taking place.
BMD Constructions and the Metropolitan Road Improvement Alliance (MRIA), on behalf of Main Roads WA, are widening the Kwinana Freeway between Russell Road and Farrington Road, North Lake, providing an extra northbound lane over 8km, noise walls and widening and upgrades to Principal Shared Paths (PSPs) along the western side of this section of Freeway.
A number of options have been carefully considered to maintain a north-south route for PSP users during construction.
The first phase, commencing 24 September, involves detouring PSP users on the western side of the Freeway from Dowell Place onto local roads through Bibra Lake, to Farrington Road in North Lake. This phase of the detour continues until December 2018 (approximate timing).
Subsequent phases will see detours extend south to Russell Road in Success. Detours will be shortened or removed at the earliest possibility.
Temporary signs showing detour route maps will be located at PSP entry points and on Farrington Road and Russell Road, immediately prior to diversion locations. The signs will remain in place for the duration of the works.
Directional signage will guide cyclists through the detour route. The signs will be attached to light posts and reviews of effectiveness and condition will be conducted regularly.
All road users are asked to take extra care when using the detour route. Cyclists and pedestrians may be required to use roads they are not familiar with and their journeys will be longer.
