WestCycle Talent Development Coordinator Jethro Nagle provides an update on WA’s High-Performance team ahead of day one of the 2019 Track Nationals in Brisbane.

“The team has settled in nicely over the last few days. The excitement at the airport was clear, all were beaming to get on the plane and over to Brisbane. They all enjoyed the two practice days on the track at the Anna Meares Velodrome getting used to the short straights and lighter gradient on the bends. The focus and mood shifted over the two days of practice, at first a lot of nervous energy was visible among the group, whereas following their final session yesterday, the group were starting to focus on the tough days of competition ahead.”

Day 1 will consist of:
JM17, JW17 500m Sprint Qualifying rounds & Finals
JM15 2000m IP Qualifying rounds & Finals
JW15, JM15 500m TT Qualifying rounds & Finals
JW15 Points Race

“There are quite a few strong riders from each of the states, with Northern Territory boasting some talent within their small squad. From a Western Australian view, Phoebe Sharpe & John Carter are our first starters of the day in the JW17 and JM17 sprint, Nick Bolt, Eve Dal Passo and Sally Carter tackle the JM/W IP & TT. Jack Barnsley’s sole event of the day will be with Nick Bolt in the JM15 500m TT. We are also looking forward to Zara Williamson, Eve Dal Passo & Sally Carter teaming up in the JW15 points race.”

“I am really looking forward to watching Phoebe Sharpe kick off WA’s Nationals campaign in the JW17 Sprint Qualifying round (Heat 12) and the JW15 Points race towards the end of the day.”
