
Junior Road Nationals
WestCycle is pleased to announce that the City of Bunbury will be the host of the 2018 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships between 21st – 23rd September. Bunbury proved to be an ideal location to hold the event which will provide competitors and spectators alike a uniquely Western Australian experience and ideal racing conditions. MORE
BMX Australian National Championships
The City of Bunbury was host to the BMX Australia National Championships over 19-25th of March, it was an epic event.
BMX Sports WA CEO Tania Wehr said:
“Thanks to BMX Australia for bringing the National Championships to Western Australia and Bunbury BMX club for hosting the event, along with everyone involved from volunteer officials, riders, parents and spectators in making it an outstanding week of racing. WA had over 570 entries in the event, with ages ranging from 5 up to 50+. The WA State Challenge Team came in with 1st place, and the Championship Team placed 3rd overall. We also have a number of National plate holders as well. Awesome effort from all involved, and we cannot wait for the next one to return to WA.”

Bike Week Politicians Ride
As part of Bike Week WA 2018, a group of State Politicians, Local Government Mayors and Senior Government officials took part in a Breakfast Ride on the streets and paths of Perth. Our goal was to create more bike riding advocates, highlight the great infrastructure that we have whilst discussing opportunities for the future. Check out what some of them had to say HERE
East Perth station Bike Shelter now open
The new bike shelter at East Perth Station is located next to the station’s East Parade entrance.
The bike shelter has 24 spaces available for Transperth passengers to store their bikes before they catch the train at the recently upgraded East Perth Station.

WA Bike Network Grants
Rita Saffioti has announced $6 million of grants to Local Governments to add more than 37kms of new shared paths across the state. This will see the safe and separated path network grow in areas from the Pilbara to the Goldfields. Some projects of note:

– Rutland Ave, Victoria Park
– Railway Ave, Armadale
– Fisheries Road, Shire of Esperance
– Central Area Cycle Links in the City of Albany
– Kalbari Foreshore, Shire of Northhampton
– Millstream Road, City of Karratha
– Dunsborough to Cape Naturaliste
– Jurien Bay School connection

Commonwealth Games News
Australia has had some awesome results at the Commonwealth Games. With WA Cyclists Sam Welsford and Cam Meyer both coming away with Gold medals. Sam Welsford won the 15km Track Scratch Race and was part of the winning Men’s 4000m Pursuit Team. Whilst Cam Meyer took out the Men’s Individual Time Trial.
