What a year it’s been so far, it just gets better and better, with the launch of the Element Road Series, two councils collaborating to develop a Bike Plan, the Your Move initiative and the news of the upcoming women’s only MTB Maintenance Workshop.

Racing in its purest form

Are you ready to face the Element? The Element Road Series kicks into life this weekend at the 75th Tom Lowry Memorial race. The Element enables the local racing clubs to hold uniformed and standardised events that deliver a high quality racing experience for everyone. The Element will be bringing you some classic races as well as some new ones, with a mantra of a safe and inclusive environment that works towards the common goal of involving more in racing and creating a positive experience for everyone involved. Simply, the Element is racing in its purest form.

Bike Plans

We love it when two councils get together to do a ‘joint bike plan’. Far too often when riding you notice when you cross over Local Government boundaries. You can go from beautifully constructed, safe and separated paths to being spat out into traffic the moment you cross an invisible line. So when we heard that the Town of Victoria Park and the City of South Perth were collaborating to write a joint plan we got excited. Local Governments are responsible for 94% of the Western Australia road network, if they aren’t working together we end up with disjointed infrastructure. We hope this move inspires many other Councils to work together in creating well-connected riding networks.

Your Move

The awesome new Your Move website is helping organisations across WA to promote active travel in their school and workplace. Your Move aims to encourage students, co-workers and individuals to choose more active ways to get around.
As a bonus, residents in the Town of Victoria Park who complete the online quiz can enter the great prize draw with the following prizes up for grabs:
1) 1 x Virgin Australia $250 flight voucher
2) 3 x $50 shopping vouchers at Coles
Winners for the $50 prizes will be contacted on the 1st May, 1st June, and 3rd July. Winner of the $250 prize will be contacted on 17 July.

Your Move gives you access to handy tools, information and support to help you get moving. Sign up your school or workplace to the website today!

Minimum Passing Distance

The Labor Government has reconfirmed their commitment to introduce a trial of minimum passing distance. This was a commitment they made during the election campaign and it’s pleasing to see actions have already taken place to prepare for it. Recently the “Might Be a Mate” advertising campaign from the Road Safety Commission was updated to include advice to motorists to give one metre space to riders. The Road Safety Commission have also established a committee to consider the scope of the trial, how it will be evaluated and communicated. I look forward to updating you on the progress of this group, which we will proudly represent the cycling community on.

Happy Riding
