Fremantle Principal Shared Path Upgrade (Ashton Avenue Bridge Replacement) – Completed 12 September 2018.
Pedestrian facilities and shared paths have been upgraded to current standards, along with lighting, barriers, drainage and signs. As part of the replaced the ageing Ashton Avenue Bridge over the railway in Claremont,
The old timber bridge was built more than 100 years ago and had a 12-tonne load limit. Main Roads WA have replaced the bridge with a new modern steel and concrete structure to ensure it is suitable for all standard vehicles.
Minor finishing works will be completed by October 2018. These include landscaping and permanent lighting for the shared path and Ashton Avenue.
