The 2016 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships wrapped up Sunday with criterium titles decided across the under 15 and under 17 categories.
Dharlia Haines (WA) outsprinted the field in the under 15 women’s criterium claiming her second medal of the championships. It was also medal number two for Dylan Eather (NSW) who took out the under 15 men’s race. Stephen Cuff (NSW) made it two gold for New South Wales as he earned top honours in the under 17 men’s race. Alexandra Martin-Wallace (QLD) sprinted to the women’s title, having also claimed a medal in the road race.
In the under 15 women’s criterium Haines proved quickest in a 20 rider sprint to take the win, improving on her silver medal in the road race on Saturday. Thalia Dole (NSW) claimed silver with Danica Wiggins (WA) bronze, her second medal of the Championships.
Eather took out the under 15 men’s race to claim his second medal of the week after finishing with bronze in the time trial. Declan Trezise (NSW) finished two seconds behind Eather for silver, while Zakk Patterson (QLD) who won the road race on Saturday won the bunch sprint to round out the podium.
Martin-Wallace outsprinted the field to claim the under 17 women’s title, and her second medal of the weekend after collecting bronze in the road race. Rounding out the podium was Claire Winterbourne (QLD) and Sarah Gigante (VIC).
In the final event of the championship Cuff stormed home claiming gold in the men’s under 17 criterium. Jensen Plowright (VIC) claimed silver and Mitchell Wright (NSW) who claimed time trial gold on Friday picked up the bronze medal.
