WestCycle are pleased to announce the dates for the 2020 Junior State Championship weekend, to be hosted in collaboration with ATTA, Midland, and Peel District Cycling Clubs.
The weekend will kick off with the Road Race on Saturday the 8th of August, hosted by Peel District CC at their popular Casuarina short road race course. A separate open graded race – the President’s Cup – will also be held on the day as part of Peel’s regular Saturday road racing schedule.
Junior riders will enjoy dedicated age-group racing in the U11, U13, U15 and U17 categories. Male and Female riders will race for their respective titles in separate groups, unless otherwise advised by the Chief Commissaire.
The weekend will conclude with the Individual Time Trial on Sunday the 9th of August, with both ATTA and Midland CC to host the event on the day. Riders will race up to 3 laps of the 5-kilometre closed-circuit Champion Lakes Regatta Centre course depending on their age group allocation.
Presentations will be held at the conclusion of each event, with medals awarded to the top 3 placegetters, and the winner of each grade to be awarded with the State Championship Jersey for each respective event.
The Junior State Championships is a fantastic way for young riders to take their cycling to the next level by demonstrating their ability and making a case for selection to the prestigious State Team. Past winners have included the likes of former Junior World Champions Jade Haines and Sam Welsford. The State Championship weekend is an exciting opportunity for riders from metro and regional clubs to come together to enjoy fun and competitive racing with the best young talent our State has to offer.
Thank you to our three host clubs for their efforts in ensuring these events run safely adhering to State Government COVID-19 guidelines. Should Government advice regarding sporting events change in the lead up to the event, riders will be contacted via email with updated event information.
