WestCycle’s Mountain Bike Development Manager Peta Demidenko attended the 10th Cape to Cape and provided us with some of the highlights from four great days of racing.
The sun was shining the bikes were out and the scenes were spectacular as the Cape to Cape MTB Celebrated its 10 year anniversary!
Day 1 – A cracker of a day to get underway in Margaret River. The biggest field ever left the beautiful surrounds of Xanadu Winery and set out on a day they would remember as the stage that gave more than it should! Due to rainfall and roadworks, the stage had to be changed and the riders had to travel extra kilometres. The grimaces quickly turned into smiles when finishing at the winery and tasting the local liquid produce!
Day 2 – The second day of Cape to Cape started and finished at the scenic Leeuwin Estate. Experiencing loamy singletrack, the stage was fast and furious. The top 20 riders battled it out at the evenings Dirt Criterium with time bonuses up for grabs.
Day 3 – The magical singletrack of Middle Earth! Based at the Colonial Brewery, riders took the long fire roads of rural Margaret River under the belting sun to Middle Earth where all their pain and suffering magically disappeared.
Day 4 – Stage four commenced with the opportunity to roll down the main street to a huge crowd of spectators and on to the epic singletrack that the town is known for. With a massive downpour of rain during the night, the trails were fit for the taking. Blazing through the fire roads, the riders were met with the sweet single track of South Carters. Trail after trail sent them over to the newly refurbished and built Compartment 10 trails. Whips, jumps, berms and yells were the story of the day!
