On Sunday the 4th of August at the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre, Midland Cycle Club volunteers came together with the Australian Time Trials Association (ATTA) to host this year’s State Junior ITT Championships in partnership. Once again the event showed just how popular the sport is becoming, with 60 juniors participating in the ITT Championships.
The weather gods were kind and the morning produced fantastic weather for the event.
All age groups were hotly contested, but none more so than the U17 boy’s category where the first five place getters were very close. In the end though, it was recent WAIS Scholarship recipient Darcy Pirotta of Midland Cycle Club, who etched out his rivals with an average speed of 44kph. Matthew Jackson (225 Racing CC) came in a close second to take silver, with a fantastic ride by Midland Cycle Clubs’ Jonathan Lewis, who shaved 1:30min off his last year’s championship time to take Bronze.
