The RAC's Economic Cycle

The RAC has released their business case for investment in cycling in WA. Below is the copy from a letter addressed to our CEO.

"The RAC has commissioned an independent assessment to identify what level of investment would be required to deliver a high quality cycling network in Western Australia.

The business case should change the way Western Australia thinks about the economics of investing in cycling infrastructure. The findings showed economic, health and environmental benefits for the community of between 3.4 & 5.4 times the costs incurred.

The business case additionally identifies that we will need an investment of $257million over 10 years to create continuous, convenient and comprehensive cycle networks in Western Australia's cities and towns. When revised population figures were taken into account, the total investment including cycling promotion could rise to $388million over the next decade.

The RAC welcomed the State Government's commitment of additional funding over the next two years but a larger and longer term funding commitment is needed to deliver a world class cycle network."
