Mountain Bike Management Guidelines released for comment

WestCycle is pleased to welcome the release of the draft Western Australian Mountain Bike Management Guidelines for public comment.

Western Australian Mountain Bike Management Guidelines

The Guidelines are a key recommendation of the recently launched Western Australian Mountain Bike Strategy and aim to ensure that mountain bike trails and opportunities across the state are provided in a sustainable way, without degrading environments.

The Guidelines combine local experience and knowledge with world’s best practice from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and Dafydd Davis, the renowned trail guru responsible for the development of the legendary Coed-y-Brenin mountain bike park in Wales.

Their development has been a community-based project, facilitated by the Department of Parks and Wildlife. The project was made possible through the commitment of the members of the Mountain Bike Working Group, which consisted of community mountain bikers representing a range of different styles and experience, members of the West Australian Mountain Bike Association (WAMBA), and staff from WestCycle, the Departments of Parks and Wildlife, and Sport and Recreation.

The eight mountain bikers who volunteered to be a part of the Mountain Bike Working Group deserve special thanks for the many hours they contributed to drafting, reviewing and finalising this document.

The public consultation period will close on 18 September 2015, 5pm.
