Cycling Education for the Wheatbelt

WestCycle is partnering with the RAC to deliver cycling education to six communities across the Wheatbelt region of WA to help keep students safe on the roads while encouraging cycling as an alternative mode of transport.

RAC Sponsorship Manager Carina Lauder said the support is part of the more than $675,000 already provided to local communities since the RAC’s Community Sponsorships program began in 2011.

“The RAC has been an integral part of the Western Australian community for more than 100 years and is committed to giving back to RAC members and the wider community,” Ms Lauder said.

“A key priority for the RAC is to help provide safer, sustainable and more convenient travel options for our members and the wider WA community.”

The Cycling Education program is run by accredited cycling instructors who will visit Wheatbelt schools and community groups to teach bike handling and basic bike maintenance skills. The Wheatbelt tour is part of a series of week-long tours in regional WA which are being coordinated by the RAC in partnership with WestCycle.

The following towns will be visited by two accredited cycling coaches as part of the first tour:

  • Beacon: Beacon CRC on Monday 26 May 2014
  • Kalannie: Kalannie Primary School on Tuesday 27 May 2014
  • Bruce Rock: Bruce Rock District High School on Wednesday 28 May 2014
  • Merriden: Meridin CRC on Wednesday 28 May 2014
  • Narambeen: Narembeen District High School on Thursday 29 May 2014
  • York: Shire of York on Friday 30 May 2014

The next Cycling Education program tour is scheduled for September 2014 and will visit the Mid West region of WA. For more information on the RAC’s Community Sponsorships program visit
